November 11th, 2016 my 44th birthday! The weather finally is getting to be beautiful and balmy. We have been suffering without air conditioning for a bit over a month with temperatures hitting nearly 100F every few days and the other days the temperatures getting well into the 90s. It has been over 10 degrees above normal since the end of September.
Heloise and I were supposed to go on a trip up to the bay area for my birthday but that was put on hold because of the AC and my sister going through a custody battle. So we ended up staying home and planning on a few day trips to local destinations. Poor Heloise hasn’t been able to drag herself out of bed though so I have been sitting with my butt planted on the couch.
We went out for a meal to Chili’s and picked up a German Chocolate Cake at the Victorian Cake Company before going to see Dr. Strange in IMax 3-D. Chili’s is what it is, food service canned food nastiness so I hate faulting them for what they are. I don’t think we will be going back. The only reason we ended up there is Heloise had their Tacos while on training and thought they were good and wanted me to try them. Everything was soaked with rancid oil soaked spice and salt. I didn’t even torture myself with thinking about how I could be having El Charro’s for lunch, or sipping a Pinot while snacking on cheese and baguette at V. Sattui.
After lunch we took the cake home and went to see Dr. Strange in 3-D. Easily the best 3-D movie I’ve seen. I’m not really big on the glasses though they seem to prevent much peripheral vision of the screen and are blurry outside your central focus area. I have somewhere around 180* field of vision and love soaking up a huge screen. We both like the movie and storytelling. If you haven’t seen it try to watch it in IMax before it is out of theaters.
Left the theater and opened the cake box when we got home. We let it get close to room temperature and cut a piece. They had said it wouldn’t be true German Chocolate since they would need to order the ingredients but they could make the cake similar with just Chocolate cake and Chocolate, Almond, Coconut frosting. It’s a good cake but it isn’t a German Chocolate cake. I think I would have been better going for a white or yellow cake. It lacks the richness I want from a Chocolate cake. Left me thinking about the cakes Mom made when I was a kid, or Linda made me. Or adding onto the lunch time torture I could have had a cake made by Rose’s Dream Cakes.
Heloise and I enjoyed our day, … well half day but I guarantee you she enjoyed her sleep. It’s just too bad things don’t work out as often as we would like. I appreciate all the birthday wishes everyone sent me.
